Do you want to make a PPI claim but can’t find your previous financial paperwork? Canary Claims is here to tell you how you can make a claim, even without some vital details to hand.
No doubt you’ve seen the new FCA PPI advertisement featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger’s robotic head. The advert is to promote the PPI deadline of 29th August 2019. Although the deadline is over a year away, you should act now if you think you are eligible to make a claim.
A claim can take up to six months from start to finish. If you want to make a PPI claim but have no paperwork, it’s likely to be nearer the six-month end of the scale. But, it is possible!
At Canary Claims, we want everyone to make a claim within plenty of time before the deadline. So, we’ve put together this comprehensive guide about how you can claim PPI with absolutely zero paperwork to hand. We’ve received many cases from people who bought PPI but no longer have the paperwork. It may take more work, but it is possible to make a successful claim.
Finding PPI Without Paperwork
Have you looked everywhere for your paperwork? This is the first thing to do. Look through any drawers, cupboards, under the bed in search of old financial paperwork. You may remember throwing the paperwork away if it was old or when moving home. But, don’t worry, it’s not gone forever.
Whether you remember buying PPI or not, without the paperwork, you can find out. Here are the steps to take.
1. Remember as much as you can in regards to the product
Before trying to find out if PPI was mis-sold, you need as much information as possible regarding the account or product. This includes the following:
- What financial product was it? (mortgage, loan, credit card, etc.)
- Who was the lender or bank?
- When did you have the account?
- What was your name and address at the time?
2. Using this information, contact a creditor, your bank, or a claims company
If your account or product was active in the last six years, your bank should have a record of it and if PPI was included. To obtain this information you will have to pay a small fee for a subject access request (SAR).
Alternatively, a creditor or reputable claims company can get this information for you. At Canary Claims, we’ve been helping people claim PPI with no paperwork for a decade. We have experience finding customer information from 20 years ago and can do it again for you.
3. Identify PPI and if it Was Mis-Sold
Once you have the relevant account information, you can check for PPI. It might be listed under another name, such as accident, sickness, and unemployment (ASU), loan protection, account cover, or loan repayment insurance.
Next is to remember how it was mis-sold to you. The following are common ways that PPI was mis-sold:
- You were told it was compulsory with your account
- You were not asked about your employment status
- You were not asked about pre-existing medical conditions
- It was added to your account without your knowledge
Thousands of customers had no idea they even had PPI until they found their paperwork or previous account details.
4. Make your Claim
You can contact the bank or lender yourself, or use a trustworthy PPI claims company, like Canary Claims, to assist you throughout the process. For a small fee, we will make a claim on your behalf. We only charge you if your claim is successful and there are no upfront fees involved whatsoever.
